Comparing only the daily rate
Request the final price for your actual dates and times. Offers are hard to compare when one includes services that another charges separately. Make a separate line for rental, taxes, equipment, additional drivers, cover and a return to a different office.
Keep the refundable deposit outside that total and record it separately as required available funds. Do not treat it as a discount or a final expense. If a term is missing from the quote, ask before completing payment.
Assuming you will receive the pictured model
Explain what the vehicle must accommodate: passengers and bags, automatic transmission or a child seat. Request confirmation of those features in your reservation and ask what happens if they are unavailable at collection.
Check the permitted route as well. Describe plans for unpaved roads, border crossings or returns in another city before booking. A category name does not establish permission for those arrangements.
For a Patagonia itinerary, start with companies in Punta Arenas. For a trip starting in the lake district, explore Puerto Montt branches and describe your planned route when requesting a quote.
Leaving without a joint inspection
Walk around the vehicle with the person handing it over and ask for observations to be added to the collection record. Save clear photographs that identify both the detail and its location. One distant photograph of the whole car is not a useful record of every mark.
- Bodywork, bumpers, mirrors and windscreen.
- Wheels, tyres and any visible damage.
- Interior, requested accessories and supplied equipment.
- Dashboard with the ignition on: fuel, mileage and warning lights.
- Fuel type and the assistance contact.
Assuming cover rules out every charge
Ask which events your chosen option covers, what is excluded and which excess applies. Request one example involving bodywork and another involving a tyre. This helps you identify whether different situations have different terms.
Save the incident reporting procedure, required documents and assistance channels. Do not wait until you need help to discover whom you should contact.
Returning without a closing record
- Reach the agreed place on time, allowing time for the inspection.
- Record fuel, mileage and the condition inside and outside.
- Keep your fuel receipt when relevant.
- Request the return document and details of any pending charges.
- Ask how confirmation of the deposit release will reach you.
Your rental folder: quote, reservation, signed agreement, collection record, departure and return photos, receipts and closing document. Keeping them together makes later differences easier to investigate.
If you notice an unfamiliar charge
Ask the company for the reason, date, calculation and supporting record. Compare it with the agreement and your saved documents, then send a specific enquiry identifying the reservation and the difference. Keep the reply and any tracking reference as well.
