Airport or city car rental?

Choose a collection point that fits your arrival and itinerary. Compare transfers, opening hours, days of use and returns alongside the rental price.

Find the actual handover location

Request the address and collection instructions before booking. Ask whether you should visit a terminal counter, take a shuttle to an outside office or meet a representative. Save the meeting point and contact number.

An address near an airport does not by itself establish that the company operates inside the terminal. Use Viajare airport pages and city listings to prepare your enquiries without assuming that a transfer is included.

Compare the cost of the whole itinerary

Prepare two budgets: collecting when you land and collecting when you first need a car. Include the full rental, transfer to the office, expected parking and requested extras. Use the same return time so that the rental periods are comparable.

For two days in Santiago before heading out of town, price both options. Collecting on arrival could simplify travelling with luggage; collecting later could reduce the number of rental days. Choose using your quoted total and itinerary, rather than assuming one location is always cheaper.

For a trip in northern Chile, compare car rental offices in Calama with companies serving El Loa airport. Ask each company where the handover takes place and how you will reach it.

When arriving by plane

  • Provide your flight number and ask whether the company monitors changes.
  • Check how long the booking is held if your flight is delayed.
  • Confirm the latest possible handover time and any surcharge.
  • Ask about shuttle capacity if you have several bags or a child seat.
  • Agree on a contact to notify after collecting your luggage.

A 24-hour telephone line, roadside assistance and 24-hour vehicle collection are different services. Ask specifically whether your booking can be handed over at your expected arrival time.

Plan the return before choosing

Request the exact entrance to the return parking area. Check whether it is the same place where you collected the car and whether you then need a transfer to the terminal. Ask how long the return process takes and include that time in your flight planning.

If a key box is offered, request written instructions: where to park, how to record fuel and mileage, and when you will receive the closing receipt. An open car park alone does not establish that an out-of-hours return has been agreed.

When to consider a city office

A city branch is worth contacting if you are already staying nearby, will not need a car for your first few days or will finish your trip in town. Check opening hours for your specific day, particularly Sundays or public holidays, and plan how to reach it with your luggage.

Before deciding, put both handover addresses, opening times, contact numbers and transfers in one note. This makes it easier to compare the booking with the agreement without searching through several conversations.
